Soma
Saos signature bio-thaumaturgical system that allows for the complete manipulation of any biomolecule & biological matter, living or dead. While a versatile tool, Soma is dangerous and volatile to use carelessly. Due to its potent effects, users are forced to gingerly call upon its power sporadically. Otherwise, repeated usage in a short amount of time can result in severe backlash to its caster and those around them. Potentially causing permanent disfigurement, death or worse. Levels of severity and bodily harm that could result from casting Soma are categorised by the three Gunas.
A spell of Soma is called a Phassa.
Gunas
As mentioned, Soma in untrained hands can result in catastrophe. It requires strong mental discipline, clarity & fortitude. To avoid disaster and moderate usage, each phassa of Soma are categorised based on how stable and predictable their outcomes are:
- Sattva: The safest modifications to perform. They are low risk and usually target a small aspect of the body that doesn’t leave lasting scores or permanent mutations. Most Sattva effects are temporary.
- Rajas: While Rajas effects are a lot stronger and efficient than Sattva, there’s now a moderate chance for modifications to inflict permanent mutations & injuries. Caution must be used while casting.
- Tamas: Not recommended to be used under any circumstances. Mutations of this calibre always gets out of control. Causing death & monstrosities of nature 90% of the time.
(While a Sattva spell is safe and reliable to perform without consequence. Phassas can be stacked, meaning that casting numerous Sattva in a short amount of time can result in a dangerous Tamas scenario. When using Soma, users are under a strict allowance and abuse results in disaster.)
Mudryama - Akasa de Rupa
These are the bodily components that Soma can affect:
- Ojha: Mutating the muscle, bone, skin, organs, etc.
- Ghandda: Craft novel smells and odours using biological matter.
- Warna: Alter hormones & bodily chemicals.
- Rasa: Crafting alien bodily sensations that affects the nervous system.
Tia-Yantaga & Sakintini (Yantra Tattoos)
While Soma can become weaponised under a malicious entity. Innovators of the system has created defensive countermeasure to guard against Soma related-attacks. These two techniques are:
- Tia-Yantaga: The art of transforming the body into a piece of armour that is immune to any Soma alternations. Locals developed this technique by observing certain Saosian wildlife that can use Soma, incorporating it for their survival. Through careful and tender guidance, a Tia-Yantaga practitioner skilfully manipulate muscle, the epidermis and bone to create grotesque armour that protects vital organs and fend off Somatic attacks. Of course, these modifications can be irreversible if the body is overtaxed.
- Sakintini: Ornate, rustic & vibrant tattoos that are intricately woven upon the skins surface using Soma. These tattoos grants bearers health benefits & magical resistances towards the elements. They can be permanently etched (Only masterful specialist can achieve this) or disappear after a period of time.
